The BNP Paribas Indian Wells Championships are played each year in the Tennis Garden at Indian Wells, California.

It is a state-of-the-art facility with a 16,000 seat stadium, the second biggest in the world. The tournament is played on hard courts and combines the best men and women tennis players in the world.

It is a Masters 1,000 in the ATP Men’s Tour and a Premier Mandatory Event on the WTA Women’s Tour and each contest has total prize cash of $3,645,000.

The 2011 event was held among 7th and 20th March and was the most successful ever in the event’s history with 350,000 persons attending for the duration of the fortnight.

Looking at the Men’s Event

Top of the 32 seeded players were Rafael Nadal (1) and Roger Federer (2) who were expected to meet in the Final as they have overshadowed men’s tennis for so long.

They had a clear run to the Semi-Final but a lot of seeds fell by the wayside. Among those who lost in the primary round were Baghdatis beaten by Devvarman, Tsonga beaten by Malisse, Ljubicic beaten by del Potro, Fish beaten by Ronic and Garcia-Lopez beaten by Harrison.

The firstborn huge shock of the tournament came with the defeat of Australian Open Finalist by Qualifier Young 7-6(4)/6-3.

Other shocks came as the tournament progresses with 8th seed Andy Roddick being beaten in the Quarter Final by 18th seed Gasquet 6-3/7-6(5) and unseeded Del Potro beating Dolgopolov, Kohlschreiber and Robredo (all seeded) only to fall to Rafael Nadal in a tough three-setter 5-7/6-1/7-6(7).

Novak Djokovic stopped Roger Federer from reaching another Final versus Nadal by beating him 6-3/3-6/6-2 in the Semi-Final.

The Serb is having the best amount of time in his tennis career and came into the Final with an unbeaten run of 19 matches. 23-year-old Djokovic had not lost a match since he was beaten by Federer in the Semi-Finals of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in November 2010.

In a gripping finale to Indian Wells 2011 he continued his unbeaten run as he came from a set down to beat Nadal 4-6/6-3/6-2.

Just three months into the ATP World Tour season Djokovic is making his mark on the Tennis World with a total of 6 ATP World Tour Master’s Titles and 21 Tour Level Titles.

It was Djokovic’s third aspect in the Indian Wells Final. In 2007 he lost to Nadal and in 2008 he lifted the trophy having beaten Mardy Fish in the Final.

Nadal has had a bad start out to 2011 having suffered a fever in Doha followed by an imposed 5-week injury lay-off after losing to Ferrer in the Australian Open Quarter Final.

Looking at the Women’s Event

The Women’s Event was headed by World Number 1 Caroline Wozniacki and Australian Open Champion Kim Clijsters and was less eventful than the Men’s Championships.

Wozniacki powered her way through to the Final knocking out Martinez Sanchez and Alisa Kleybanova on the way. She won her match versus Victoria Azarenka by default when the player from Belarus had to retire for the duration of their match due to injury.

In the bottom half of the draw the surprise Finalist was the 26-year-old French player Marion Bartoli. The 2007 Wimbledon Champion had an unfortunate match versus Klijsters when she won it by default. The Australian Open Champion was 3-6/1-3 down when she had to retire due to injury.

But she justified her place in the Final by defeating Ana Ivanovic 6-4/7-6(4) and Yanina Wickmayer 6-1/6-3.

World Number 1 Caroline Wozniacki reached the Final by showing impressive form in the Semi Final versus past Champion Maria Sharapova.

She continued this form in the Final and conceded just three points to serve to race through the opening set winning it 6-1.

Bartoli put up a good fight in the second set breaking Wozniacki twice to take the second set 6-2 but the top seed came back strongly in the third set to break Bartoli twice for a 4-1 lead.

Even altho the French woman pulled back to 4-3 she could not win another game and Wozniacki took the match and the Title 6-1/2-6/6-3.

4Excellent Value
By R. SPOSILI
A real nice value; having the right pockets, the right ventilation options, good fit, nice zipper closures, a servicable liner; altho the insulated liner’s not one thing you’d wear when got rid of from the jacket. The jacket collar has a clever securing snap when worn in an open position. The back shelter “pad” is a bit on the flimsy side, and I intend to insert an upgraded type in it is place. The arm and shoulder armor is well positioned and stays decently aligned with the body areas they’re designed to protect. The jacket doesn’t “ride up” on your body when you’re seated on the bike like a few other 3/4 length jackets I’ve owned. All-in-all I’m very pleased with the flexibleness and range of weather conditions the jacket is suitable for. We’ve had a few odd spring days which started out in the mid-30′s and finished off in the upper 80′s and I was competent to configure the jacket to be perfectly comfortable all around the range… I’d without apparent effort commend it to my riding buddies.

I love this jacket. Has the shelter you need, high visibility, very comfortable and with the air intakes it keeps you cool in the summer.

The jacket looks better in person than in the picture. Nice zip-out liner. Lots of pockets. Comfortable.
I am 5’11, 155lbs., and have long arms. The Medium/Tall fits very well, and is a flattering cut. Hope that helps.
