Versions of this exercise have been around for an exceedingly long time. They exercise the chest, shoulder and tricpe muscles as well as use a lot of core strength and stability. They are a rudimentary exercise in most strength and conditioning regimes and I highly commend them to any individual who is looking at strengthening their upper body.

The world record for the most push-ups with no rest was by a Japanese man who did 10 507 without stopping. This is veritably an unbelievable accomplishment. Although doing a assortment of these wont give rise to world record performances they will still help in fabricating your upper body and core strength. There are numerous dissimilar style you may choose from but I have decisive to explain the versions that I like to include in my strength and conditioning programs. It is great to mix it up because your training won’t become to stale and boring.

There are a lot of dissimilar variations of push-ups, these include scooping, narrow, wide, triangle, decline, incline, reverse, Medicine Ball, Swiss Ball, Clapping and Box. This report is just going to give a brief description of how to do each of these and what the gains are.

Basic

Everyone at a great deal of stage in their life has done basic push-ups. To do them plainly place your hands shoulder width apart, come up onto your toes and lower yourself to the ground before returning to the starting position.

Scooping

These are harder than normal push-ups because they are more full body and concentrate more on the littler muscles of the triceps rather than the huge chest muscles. The only bad thing is these attract a lot of weird looks and remarks in the gym but they actually are a outstanding exercise.

Narrow

I classify anything ‘narrow’ as anything closer than shoulder width. Narrow push-ups genuinely nullify the use of the front deltoid and chest muscles and actually focus on the Triceps muscles allround the movement. This exercise is great for building up the Triceps.

Wide

The wide version are the opposite of the narrow form. They are performed with a wider than shoulder width hand position and nullify the triceps involvement. Wide push-ups and concentrate more on the chest and shoulder part of the movement. I believe that this style is a waste of time and if you want to build chest and shoulders just do normal push-ups.

Triangle

Simply put your hands next to each other and make a triangle with your thumbs and index fingers. Once you have done this start out your push-ups. This exercise is taking the narrow version to the extreme. You might find when doing this exercise that due to your hands being so narrow a lot of pressure is put onto your wrists and elbows and may result in sore elbows for a couple of days. Great for triceps building but due to the amount of stress placed on the elbows and consequently I don’t commend this version.

Decline

Decline are done when your feet are elevated on an object. Decline are outstanding if you want to add galore extra weight to your push-up because when doing decline version your arms are pressing more weight than the basic style.

Incline

Incline push-ups are the opposite of Decline. Instead of your feet on something you put your feet on the ground and hands on an object that’s higher than your feet. When completing an Incline you are lifting less weight than bodyweight.

Reverse

Reverse push-ups are a ridiculous variation and have no gain at all. To do a reverse push-up you put your hands by your sides but rather of having your fingers pointing forward (like each other variation) with a reverse version your fingers face your toes. To put yourself in this position already requires a significant amount of flexibleness in the wrists and forearms and I advise you to give these push-ups a go but don’t do them regularly or you will hurt the ligaments in your wrists.

Medicine ball

Medicine ball push-ups are a fantastic exercise designed to not build up your muscles but to work your upper body co-ordination. To finish medicine ball push-ups place one hand on top of the ball and one on the floor. Complete a push-up, and then quickly swap to do a push-up on the other side of the ball. To do this you must at some stage quickly modify hands on top of the medicine ball. This is where co-ordination comes in. To make this exercise harder us a littler ball, to make it easy use a more spectacular ball.

Swiss Ball

Swiss ball style are a fantastic exercise that requires strength and control. You plainly put your feet on the floor and your hands on a Swiss ball and then finish a push-up. Due to the instability in the ball your muscles will have to contract and adjust very fast resulting in a heap of trainers shaking very severely each rep. to make this exercise even harder place a Swiss ball underneath place hands and underneath your feet.

Clapping

The widely known and esteemed ‘clapping’ version. This exercise is fantastic for upper body power, explosiveness and co-ordination. Some persons may even get so high after their push-up that they may clap behind their back before the next repetition. To do a clapping push-up you must do a very explosive push, clap hands, and then return to the starting position.

Box

Get 2 boxes of equivalent size and put them beneath each hand. Situate your body in amidst each box so that when you go down your body goes lower than it would with a normal push-up increasing the range of motion of the exercise. This is a outstanding way to increase the stretch on the chest muscles as well as completing the exercise utilizing the full range of movement.

Good luck doing push-ups as they are a outstanding form of strength in particular to the younger generations who are a bit too young to get started weight training. These are a great exercise and may be done anyplace so if you are away on travel and can’t get to the gym start out pushing out a good deal of and you will have a outstanding workout.
